Exterior Reconstruction Project

When hurricane damage impacts a behavioral health facility, restoration is about more than rebuilding walls. It is about restoring safety, stability, and trust in a space where people depend on it every day.

Our team was brought into the North Tampa Behavioral Health Hospital project through our long-time remediation partner, WrightWay Emergency Services. WrightWay handled the initial emergency response and stabilization efforts after the storm. Once the site was ready for reconstruction, we were selected to complete the full exterior restoration.

From the outset, the mission was clear: rebuild the hospital’s exterior envelope in a way that would withstand future storms while allowing the facility to continue operating safely throughout construction.

A Facility That Never Fully Stopped Operating

One of the defining challenges of this project was that the hospital remained active during construction. Patients, staff, and daily operations continued on-site, which meant every phase of work had to be carefully planned around safety, access, and disruption.

We had to think beyond construction itself. We were working in an environment where precision, communication, and sequencing mattered just as much as craftsmanship.

Rebuilding the Building’s First Line of Defense

The storm had compromised key elements of the exterior envelope, including the water-resistant barrier system and sections of Hardie siding.

Our work focused on fully restoring that protective layer:

  • Carefully removing all damaged exterior materials

  • Rebuilding the water-resistant barrier system from the ground up

  • Replacing Hardie siding with durable, weather-resistant materials

  • Re-establishing a complete, sealed exterior envelope system

The goal was not just repair. It was long-term resilience.

The Reality of Restoration Work

Like most hurricane restoration projects, the full scope did not reveal itself until demolition began. Once walls were opened and materials removed, additional areas of concern surfaced, which is expected in this type of work.

The difference is how you respond.

Our team stayed in constant communication with WrightWay, addressing issues quickly, adjusting sequencing where needed, and ensuring solutions were implemented without delaying the broader schedule or impacting hospital operations.

What We Are Most Proud Of

This project came down to two things: speed and control.

We mobilized quickly, coordinated a large crew efficiently, and maintained strict safety protocols in an active healthcare environment. Despite the complexity, the project remained smooth, organized, and predictable for the client and our partners.

In the end, we restored not just the building’s exterior, but its ability to function safely in the face of future storms.

The Result

The completed restoration delivered a fully rebuilt exterior system designed for long-term durability and protection. The hospital now has a renewed building envelope that supports both its operational needs and its mission of providing care in a safe, stable environment.
